Hello, Everyone!
My name is DON DAVIS.
I'm proud to say I've worked at ALE longer than anyone else. It's been part of my life for a long time as it has been for many of you too. This month I would like to share with you, another rewarding part of my life.
For many years I've had the privilege of working with special needs kids through different institutions in Japan.I have been at the Tokyo University Hospital for twelve years. I also work at Japan National Children's Hospital and several schools for physically and mentally handicapped children.
The kids at all these places teach me so much about compassion, patience and perseverance. It's such a joy to be part of their lives. For an example of how inspiring these children can be, let me tell you about a young blind boy.Even though he cannot see he has learned music and can play so well on the piano that he performed a recital in Carnegie Hall.

He was also offered a music scholarship to the Julliard School (one of the worlds most renowned schools for performing arts). After such a great accomplishment you can imagine his disappointment when world events (the terrorist attacks on the World Trade center in New York city) prevented him from being able to go the school after all. However - due to his reputation he was soon offered another opportunity to study music in Vienna, Austria - the home of Mozart. What better place to begin his career.
This boy's story of hard work, and good fortune taught me that no matter what challenges we face, there is always hope to overcome them. My hope is that after reading this, you too may feel inspired to look for ways to overcome any difficulties you may have whether they be physical, emotional, mental or spiritual.
